New Google infrastructure

Google have taken one more step in taking over the universe by setting up their very own DNS infrastructure, aimed at speeding up DNS resolving times and security.

After all the hype of DNS poisoning earlier this year Google has decided to use it as a scare tactic to convince people to use their servers, but there is the opinion that it is all so they are able to get more information on what people are viewing, yes thats right even more than they do currently, but in any case it doesn’t hurt to have a few extra IP addresses for labs and connectivity testing. The 2 main IP addresses they are giving out to use are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, you can read more about it below.

  1. Of course if your ISP’s DNS is performing well, there is no reason that Google’s should be faster as they should have common records cached and have the servers closer to you.

That said Google is using Anycast, announcing the same /24 from multiple geographic locations to deliver good performance worldwide, the same as a number of root DNS servers.
